(1) Written Sources
Ans-Sources are important to learn history. It helps us to know about our past, but sources of modern history are different from those of ancient and medieval history. These sources are divided into four parts-
(1) Written Sources, (2.)Material Sources, (3.) Oral Sources, (4.) Audio-visual Sources
The sources which are written and help us to know about the past historical events are called written sources. These sources includes- Newspapers, periodicals, diaries of important persons, Reference books, Correspondence, Documents in the Archives, Government Gazettes, Postage Stamps, Encyclopaedias.
(2) Press Trust of India
Ans-The Press Trust of India is an important source of primary details of all importantevents .They also provide materials for writing the History of Modern India. It is founded on 27 August 1947and New Delhi is its head quarter. It has always providedreports, photographs and articles on financial and scientific issues to newspapers which are the primary sources of History.. PTI has now started its online service. During the 1990s, PTI started using the ‘satellite broadcast’ technology instead of tele-printers to send news all over the country.
(3.) Explain the following statementswith reasons.
(1) The postal department tries to preserve the heritage and integrity of Indian culture through postage stamps.
Ans-The postage stamp is an important source to know more about historical events. It lies under the written sources. Though they didn’t have anything to speak on their own but the historians made them speak about the past events. They were issued to reveal the changes of time by changing their sizes, novelty of subjects and colour schemes. Again, The Postal Department issued postage stamps on a wide variety of themes like political leaders, flowers, animals, and birds time to time because they wanted to preserve the heritage and integrity of Indian culture through postage stamps.These changes actually speak about the History itself.
(2) Audio-visual media are an important source for writing the history of modern India.
Ans.-Sources are important to know more about historical events. Among many Audio visual media is one of the most important sources of modern India to know the details of history. As we all know being a third world country India’s literacy rate is still under the mark and for the mass population it is not possible to read the written sources to know about their past. For them if things will be provided audio-visually, it will help them to understand the vividly. Moreover the Audio visual media affects more on people’s mind. Many television shows, films on historical events, and internet which are the audio visual sources help to know about history. Againmany domestic and foreign television channels also come under this head, e.g., History channel, Discovery channel.
